Ingredients:
Dough:
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour.
¼ cup sugar.
½ teaspoon salt.
2 teaspoons instant yeast.
½ cup warm milk.
¼ cup melted butter.
1 large egg.
½ cup warm water (as needed for kneading).
Filling:
½ cup soft butter (not melted).
¾ cup brown sugar.
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.
Topping (cinnabon sauce):
½ cup cream cheese (at room temperature).
¼ cup softened butter.
1 cup powdered sugar.
1 teaspoon vanilla.
2-3 tablespoons milk (depending on desired consistency).
Directions:
1. Prepare the dough:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
Add the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
Start kneading by hand or with a mixer, gradually adding warm water until you get a soft, elastic dough.
Cover the dough with a clean towel and leave it in a warm place for an hour until it doubles in size.
2. Prepare the filling:
In a small bowl, mix the soft butter with the brown sugar and cinnamon until the mixture is homogeneous.
3. Form the cinnamon buns:
After the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about ½ cm thick).
Brush the dough with the filling mixture evenly.
Roll the dough tightly into a roll, then cut it into equal slices about 3-4 cm thick.
4. Baking:
Place the cinnamon bun slices on a buttered tray, leaving small spaces between them.
Cover and leave to rise for an additional 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the cinnamon buns for 20-25 minutes until golden.
5. Prepare the topping:
In a bowl, beat together the cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar and vanilla.
Gradually add the milk until you get the desired consistency.
6. Serve:
After removing the cinnamon buns from the oven, brush them with the sauce while they are warm.
Serve and enjoy!
Tips:
You can add chopped nuts to the filling for a special texture.
Add more cinnamon if you like a rich flavour.
